Renting cranes in Dubai

Mobile cranes on UAE sites lift precast panels, steel structures, tanks, generators and heavy plant into place, and unload the loads a boom loader cannot. They come with an operator and, for anything beyond a simple lift, a rigger. Capacity is the headline number, but what the crane can lift at your radius is the number that decides the job.

Cranes are charged by the hour with a minimum, or by the day, plus mobilisation to and from the site. A lift near the crane at a short radius uses a fraction of the rated capacity; a lift over a building at twenty metres needs a much bigger crane than the load weight suggests.

Where to find them in Dubai

Dubai has the largest pool of pickups and tankers in the country. Drivers wait at stands in Al Quoz, Al Qusais and Ras Al Khor industrial areas and around Jebel Ali and Dubai Investment Park, so a truck for a Dubai site is rarely more than half an hour away. Dubai-plated trucks pick up anywhere in the emirate; for a job that starts in Sharjah or Ajman, check the listing's pick-up area first.

Sizes and types

• 25 ton: unloading trucks, small precast, tanks and machinery at short radius.
• 50 ton: the common site crane for precast walls, steel and generators.
• 70 to 100 ton: longer radius lifts over structures, larger precast and plant.
• 200 ton and above: bridge beams, tower crane erection and heavy industrial lifts.

What to ask the owner

• What can it lift at the radius and height you need, from the load chart?
• Is the price per hour with a minimum, or per day, and what is the mobilisation charge?
• Are the operator and a rigger included, and does the crane hold a valid third-party certificate?
• Does the site have space and firm ground for the outriggers?
• Is there an extra charge for a boom extension or a jib?

Common questions

How do I choose the crane size?

From the load weight, the radius from the crane to the load, and the height, not from the weight alone. Give the owner those three numbers and they will pick the crane from the chart.

Is a crane charged by the hour or the day?

Usually by the hour with a minimum of several hours, plus mobilisation. Full days and longer periods are quoted as a daily rate.

Does the crane come with an operator?

Always. A rigger or banksman is included or added for lifts that need one.
