Recovery trucks for rent in the UAE

Renting recovery trucks in the UAE

A recovery truck, called a سطحة (satha) across the Gulf, is a flat, tilting bed with a winch. On construction sites it does two jobs: it moves small machines that cannot drive on the road, such as forklifts, compressors, generators and mini excavators, and it recovers vehicles that have broken down or got stuck in sand.

Recovery trucks are hired per trip. The driver winches or drives the machine up the tilted bed, straps it down and delivers it. For machines above about ten tonnes, or anything wide, you need a lowbed trailer instead.

Sizes and types

• 3 to 5 ton: cars, small forklifts, compressors and generators.
• 7 to 10 ton: larger forklifts, mini excavators, skid steers and small rollers.

What to ask the owner

• What is the maximum weight it can winch and carry, and the bed length?
• Does it have ramps or a full tilt bed, and can the machine be driven on?
• Is the price per trip, and what does waiting at pick-up cost?
• Does the driver have straps and chains for a machine, not just for cars?

Also called: flatbed, سطحة, tow truck, car carrier, machine transport

Common questions

Recovery truck or lowbed, which do I need?

A recovery truck for machines up to roughly ten tonnes that fit on a truck bed. A lowbed trailer for excavators, wheel loaders, cranes and anything wide or over that weight.

Can a recovery truck pull a machine out of sand?

Most have a winch strong enough for a car or a light machine. For a loaded truck or a heavy machine you need a heavy recovery unit; say what is stuck when you call.

Is a recovery truck available at night?

Many operate around the clock because breakdowns do. Check the listing's hours and call; availability shows on each listing.
